Neuschwanstein Castle: Built 1869 to 1886 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria on the site of the ruins from "Vorder & Hinterhohenschwangau" in the style of a medieval castle.
Hohenschwangau Castle: Crown Prince Maximilian of Bavaria reconstructed the dilapidated Schwanstein Castle in neo-gothic style during 1832-1836.
Linderhof Castle: Built 1870-1879 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was King Ludwig’s preferred castle, a genuine rococo jewel. It is reminiscent of the Petit Trianon in Versailles and is also the only one of the three Bavarian royal castles that was actually completed.
Oberammergau: The famous Passion Play town is located in neighbouring Bavaria. The vow to present the play about the suffering and death of Christ every 10 years originated as Oberammergau was struck by a major plague in 1633. Oberammergau is also the centre of world-famous “Lüftlmalerei” (illusory façade painting).
